Kristin Vavrina, Nebraska Czech-Slovak Queen of Clarkson, Nebraska was crowned the 1997-98 Miss Czech-Slovak USA Queen and Grand Talent Winner. She is a student at the University of Nebraska with a future goal in the medical field as a doctor. She is the daughter of Randy and Mitzi Vavrina. 1st Runnerup was Shantel Ringler, Kansas Bohemian Belle. 2nd Runnerup was Aesli Grandi, South Dakota, Costume winner was Lucie Beranek, Ohio. Talent runner up and Miss Congeniality was Betsy Sokol, Nebraska Heritage Queen.
This was the first year that Oregon was represented in the pageant.
